Montaubans Tract about France

Montauban's Tract about FranceThe facts about Le Cote d'Or, and the town of Courchevel in Languedoc-Roussillon are disputed by Montauban, who also quotes De la Langue. However, French historians have placed him in either Alsace or the Languedoc region, so this passage is a mystery indeed. He was supposedly very young at the time, and if he was not yet twenty, then he was far too young to be an historian.Morison states that in his first book, Gogolin, he describes the gravelled road leading to Gogolin where, in 1195, the famous French king Louis VII had died in battle, and where the French fortress now stands. This fact is disputed by the Languedoc-Roussillon folk who claim that there was a ditch running through the region. Furthermore, Montauban provides a map from this period, which shows a large ditch just south of the road. The little known Grey Brig's Tomb, which Morison did not mention at all, is one of the most important relics of the Languedoc-Roussillon area. Morison also clai ms that the town was under the control of the Dukes of Champagne. This claim has never been proven as it would have meant that the Dukes of Champagne had control over both Languedoc and Courchevel, which is precisely what no one ever claimed. Montauban confirms the similarity between Courchevel and Languedoc when he describes them as having similar high walls and says that, according to the 'laurentian tradition', the land was granted to the Dukes of Champagne by the pope.Morison also attributes the presence of the great Le Mans Cathedral to the fact that the Burgundians had a high wall around the town. However, it is known that the town had a great many forts and castles during the latter part of the thirteenth century, and that the town gate of Le Mans was run by means of a horse-drawn wheel, which was pulled by four carts and the passage of four horses. Montauban, who visited Courchevel during his expedition, again never mentions the existence of any forts or castles.Montauban sa ys that Morison gives him little information about Courchevel. Morison also states that the region of Courchevel, which was one of the villages of the Languedoc region, had a street named by the name of Trois Marchandiers. However, the street does not exist at all, nor is there any mention of any such street in any book written by Morison. On the other hand, in his Memoirs of the Troubadours, Montauban provides a map which shows a street named by the name of Trois Marchandiers, but this was, according to the French historians, a place that was present before the town was built, and which existed after the new town was built. In fact, according to the Montauban, Morison shows little knowledge of the Languedoc region. Montauban also tells us that he had visited the area which he would later write about in such books as Gogolin and found that it was 'a place which had at the centre of a fort, situated towards the extreme right bank of the river.' He does not give any name for the fort.F inally, Montauban suggests that Morison was 'much favoured' by a Roman leader, Valerius Flaccus, to whom he applied for permission to cross the Rhone to explore the region. Morison was denied permission by Valerius and decided to sail eastward along the banks of the Rhone. As he later did, he came across the city of Paris, which had been founded by Marigny, who went on to establish a colony in Brittany. However, by the time Morison wrote his memoirs, the Roman Empire had dissolved, and the colony in Brittany was annexed by the king of France. He describes an early town of the Languedoc region, Courchezone, which was founded by a Roman soldier called Romanus, and which existed in the sixth century.

New Drug Has Potential To Beat Cancer

New Drug Has Potential To Beat Cancer investors.com Of course, this is still not enough to consider the drug a cure for cancer, but it’s a good start. The drug has only been out since 2011, so there’s no long-term efficacy studies, meaning its unclear whether or not Waag’s cancer will come back, or even if the drug is the reason that it is gone. Still, most patients diagnosed with melanoma are given a year to live at the most, so to be two years cancer free after such a diagnosis is nothing short of a miracle. The drug has been tested before and showed that 40 percent of patients survived at least three more years due to treatment, while 10 percent of patients showed no evidence of cancer whatsoever after treatment. According to Waag’s oncologist, Dr. Lynn Schuchter, “The prospect that more and more patients will be cured is becoming a reality.” And when most patients hear the word cancer and immediately believe it’s a death sentence, drugs like this might just change everything. Cancer experts are even getting excited about this, and now believe that diagnoses such as these will no longer be death sentences. According to the White House, this positive movement is referred to as an “inflection point.” And there’s plenty of incentive to keep the ball moving as well. In his last State of the Union address in January, President Barack Obama urged scientists and researchers to “cure cancer once and for all” in a $1 billion initiative meant to inspire some of the most brilliant minds to cure one of the most deadly diseases. Since then, many companies have also joined in the initiative, and many humanitarians are continuously donating funds to cancer research. And for good reason cancer is still the top killer in about half of the U.S. And with such success stories as we see with Waag, it’s hard not to believe that we have something that could change the way the public views cancer. According to Dr. Daniel Hayes, the new ASCO president, “It makes us wonder if we can use the word ‘cure.’” The ASCO meeting will also cover many different studies, including ways to attack cancer through the use of immunotherapy. And recently, Bristol Myers Squibb created a rival drug to Merck’s Keytruda, Opdivo, that works by “blocking a protein tumor’s use to evade detection by the immune system,” according to NBC News. Roche Holding AG is also hot on their tail, with a similar drug known as Tecentriq in the works, which would be used to treat bladder cancer and has just gotten U.S. regulatory approval. According to Fouad Namouni, the head of medical research at Bristol Myers, “We are raising the bar for overall survival.” And this exactly what’s happening. The new drug known as Opdivo has shown that 23 percent of patients with advanced lung cancer were still alive two years after beginning the drug. This is compared to the 8 percent that would be alive through standard chemotherapy. These success rates have everyone giddy, and researchers are now working to combine different immunotherapy agents to hopefully increase those survival percentages. On top of this, researchers still need to determine why the immunotherapy is working on some and not on others. Plus, dosages and duration have yet to be determined. Right now, it’s a lot of trial and error. In the most recent Keytruda study, melanoma was actually worse in the patients that stopped treatment. Due to this, Waag is afraid to stop. Waag is a retired engineering professor from the University of Rochester in New York, and was first diagnosed with melanoma in 1998. At this point, the skin lesions were removed and he went the next 13 years of his life cancer free. In his own words, “Then it came back and with a vengeance.” That’s when the immunotherapy was called for, and it worked. But now, when to stop using it? Waag doesn’t experience any side effects, as do many other patients. But some experience liver inflammation and other immune system problems, which forces the patients to quit treatment. And on top of that, a large amount of patients have zero response to the drug altogether. According to Roger Perlmutter, the head of research at Merck, immunotherapy is “the first broad spectrum anti-cancer agent” since radiation. “We are just scratching the surface. When we are able to treat patients with earlier-stage disease we would expect an even better response and longer durability.” Still, Perlmutter won’t use the word, “cure.” “I prefer to say we can treat this malignancy remove any symptoms so daily living is as normal as possible.” And the cancer-free benchmark hasn’t been reached yet, as the success stories fall between 2-3 years cancer free while the current mark at which patients are really considered cancer free is five years. According to Michael Postow, an oncology at New York’s Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, “If the patient is 38, for example, we need even more than five years. We have high hopes that the survival benefits from these drugs will extend well beyond five years.” However, this survival will come at a steep price. Keytruda and Opdivo would cost about $150,000 a year, which is more than most patients would be able to afford. But at the same time, putting a price tag on the difference between life or death doesn’t leave you with much choice either. Regardless of the price and the questions left unanswered, just the fact that a potential cure is in the works should be enough to make anybody excited. Imagine a world in which cancer is just another word.

Vocal Health The Important Tip That Will Save Your Voice

Vocal Health The Important Tip That Will Save Your Voice Suzy S. Lots of rehearsals coming up? Feeling under the weather? In this article, singing teacher  Elaina R.  shares an important vocal health tip that can save your voice!   The tenor in my professional vocal quintet is named Mark. It’s a perfectly good name, but for a singer it can be frustrating. Nearly every day someone announces that they are going to “mark,” and poor Mark gets confused. Sometimes even Mark has to mark. What the heck am I talking about? Marking is an important skill that every singer, amateur or professional, must learn in order to stay healthy. Learning about this vocal health tip  (and how to do it properly) can save you from a whole host of problems, including vocal fatigue and injury. And if your name is Mark, I apologize in advance for any confusion this may cause. What Is Marking and When Should I Do It? Marking is a type of modified singing meant to minimize strain on the voice. It limits volume and range while maintaining rhythm and pitch accuracy. Most importantly, marking is a tool you can use to avoid getting vocally tired and hurting yourself during vocal rehearsals of any kind. This includes rehearsals for choir, musicals, operas, show choir, a cappella, even personal rehearsal time. Marking comes in handy when: You have to sing the same taxing thing over and over.  This can happen: For the benefit of collaborators (e.g. piano accompanists, orchestra, other singers) When learning new music, either with others or on your own. There’s no reason to sing a vocally difficult passage forte  10  times just to learn it. You are feeling vocal fatigue (pain or discomfort in the throat, difficulty getting a clear vocal sound, general feeling of strain) You are vocally compromised by allergies or illness (maybe you are getting over a cold and don’t want to overdo it) A quick note on marking in rehearsal: be sure to let your conductor, director, and/or pianist know that you will be marking beforehand. Marking is completely acceptable to any conductor or accompanist (in fact, it shows how mature you are!), but if you don’t let people know, they might be confused as to why you sound different than usual. How to Mark There are two main ways that singers mark. However, before we get to how to mark, let me give a little disclaimer. Marking can be just as tiring, if not MORE tiring, than singing in full voice if you don’t do it properly. You may think you’re taking it easy, but you still have to think about breath, resonance, and tension in the same ways you would if you were singing in full voice. Otherwise, you could hurt yourself while marking, which completely negates the purpose of  this vocal health tip! Got it? OK, good. Moving on to the two main types of marking. Sing quieter. When marking, singers often eliminate dynamics in favor of a comfortable piano. This often involves switching vocal registration (head voice instead of high chest voice, for example). The result is a lighter, easier sound than full voice singing. Not sure what this means? Refresh your knowledge of  vocal registers. Eliminate range extremes. When marking, singers avoid high notes by transposing them down an octave. For example, if I was marking and I had an E6 in my music, I would sing an E5 or E4 instead. Mark Away The next time you are feeling vocally strained while trying to learn new music or while in a rehearsal, remember this vocal health tip. When done properly, marking  helps protect your voice from fatigue and injury, ensuring that you’ll sound great when performance time comes around. Your musical collaborators, your voice teacher, and your vocal cords will all appreciate that! Post Author:  Elaina R. Regardless of why you're speaking publicly, the ultimate aim is to be persuasive and get your message across, whilst feeling comfortable speaking. This act of effective communication, speaking to an audience, requires quite a lot of preparation for some whereas, for others, it comes somewhat naturally. That said, different environments and audiences can play a big part in how you react under pressure so even the most confident speakers can crumble under extreme pressure when feeling speech anxiety! When public speaking, the information is intended to have a purpose, i.e. to educate, influence or entertain the listeners so it's important to speak with confidence. When it comes to your career, good leadership and conversational skills can make you stand out from the rest of your team, ensure that people listen to your points, help you to make sales and leads, and allow you to be more transparent, among many other reasons to work this skill. However, public speaking isn't all about looking out for yourself in terms of job security and promotion. Being able to speak confidently can, outside of the workplace, help you to adjust to social situations that once made you uncomfortable (such as mingling, making small talk with strangers, etc...), enable you to showcase your knowledge on a subject and allow you to learn more about your interests.Does the idea that you have to speak in public give you a fright and fill you with nervousness? Then keep reading for some tips on how to get rid of public speaking anxiety. How To Get Better At Communicating Vocally Learn from the best public speakers of our time. Photo on Visualhunt.comWant to master presentation skills? Then you first need to get to grips with the basics of oral communication. Here are some tips and tricks for getting better at speaking to the masses and diminish performance anxiety.Prepare Well To Diminish NervesBeing nervous is normal: pounding heart, sweaty palms, dry mouth, we've all experienced it. But nerves are also good, as they show that you care. The best way to overcome these feelings, however, is to be as prepared as you can be when giving a presentation. If you have re-read your notes a hundred times, then you have no need to feel worried about your speaking skills!Know Your AudienceGet to know who it is you are addressing because remember that delivering presentations is about them and not you.Find out as much as you can about the crowd so that you can choose your vocabulary wisely in your presentation to engage the audience, work out how much information you feed them and decide how to organise the speech (with kids, for example, you'll need to keep injecting fun activities in between chunks of detail if you want to keep them hooked throughout!).Go With The FlowWhile you should know your audience and should, therefore, have an idea of how they will respond to your speech, it's wise to try to feel their response and work with the feedback and vibes they give. If it means forgetting your cue cards and going off on a tangent because that is how the speech evolves, then go with the flow if you are confident to do so! Everyone hates it when politicians keep returning to the point they want to make instead of answering the question put to them... the greatest speeches keep your listeners on side.Let Your Personality Shine Through.Be yourself, during your speech, as otherwise, you will be too focused on trying to maintain your alter ego or persona. You will have better credibility if your personality shines through while you address the crowd and y our audience feels it can trust you. Be real, even if you don't like the sound of your own voice and you'll deliver a great presentation!Use Light Humour As An Ice-BreakerOne of the most common phobias in life is giving a presentation to an audience... how to overcome fear? Be funny!Making the odd joke here and there, especially at the beginning of a speech can be a great way to captivate the audience however steer clear of any dry humour as you don't want to wind up upsetting people. Using humour in most situations can break the ice. Photo credit: benzado on Visual Hunt / CC BY-SADon't Read Word For WordEven though you may have written down an excellent speech, don't read it word for word, that's a failure to grasp any presenting skills. Or, if you really have to because you struggle to retain a script, then make sure that you make eye contact with the crowd regularly. Otherwise, you won't be able to keep an eye on their reactions!Use Your Body LanguageThe way you hold yourself and the way you present yourself on stage can be just as important as how you deliver your speech vocally. Use hand gestures and, more importantly, use your face to get your message across more powerfully. You need presence if you want to influence your audience and thankfully adrenaline helps a lot with this.Start Well, End WellEnding a speech well is almost as important as to start it off on the right foot. What's more, people will usually remember the beginning and end more, since they are more likely to drift during the middle of your speech. Make sure you conclude with a strong summary and give them food for thought.Additional Public Speaking Tips For IntrovertsTry Out A PersonaContrary to what we said above, introverts might like to try pretending they are someone else, but not a different person entirely. Very nervous people might do well imagining that they are not the quiet person they are by nature and instead act as though they are full of confidence and self-esteem. Speaking is performing, after all.You might even discover a new, more extroverted side of yourself that you didn’t know was there before!Check Your AppearanceIntroverts are normally riddled with negative feelings - are they laughing at me, have I got spinach in my teeth, are my flies pulled up, etc... - so it is important to focus on your appearance before you take to the stage so that that is one thing you can tick off your list and be sure of. Maybe go to the toilets just before your speec h and start your checklist in front of the mirror to ensure you are well prepared:   Hair, tick! Teeth, tick! Shirt tucked in, tick!!!Remember also, your audience aren't going to judge you solely on your appearance so it's not the be all and end all. The most important thing is getting your message across with little speaking anxiety.Smile At Your AudienceEven if it is masking a whole bucket of feelings, starting your speech with a smile is proven to get more people on side. What's more, even if it is slightly forced, it is likely to make you feel happier and distract from your nerves. Seeing a few warm and friendly smiles back at you could also put you at ease as you begin. If you are a nervous person by nature, then you may need to work extra hard on your public speaking. Photo on Visualhunt.comLet Others Take Over If AppropriateI know, this is supposed to your time to shine, to take the limelight. But you didn't really want it anyway, did you? If you are clever, you could mask your fears by delivering a short and sweet speech and then encouraging participation and getting your audience to do a bit of the work for you, all the while keeping them engaged and managing to avoid speaking much yourself. Genius isn't it?!Take Some Time AfterwardsAfter your speech, you'll probably be buzzing that it's over but also worrying about if it went well. And all that nervous energy will probably linger! Public speaking, for anyone, can be quite draining, especially if you've spent a long time memorizing and working on your delivery skills beforehand to make sure you nailed what to say. Make sure that you don't arrange to do anything that means you are rushing about a fter the speech. Just get yourself home, with a nice cup of tea (or glass of wine, if you prefer!) and put your feet up!See here which online resources are available to those wanting to give great speeches.

Algebraic Expressions Worksheet - Maths Online Tutoring

Algebraic Expressions Worksheet - Maths Online Tutoring Algebraic expressions are the expressions which contain one unknown variable. If we simplify the given algebraic expressions we can find out the value of the unknown variable. Let us discuss algebraic expressions with some of the examples. We can verify the value of the unknown value by substituting the value in the equation again and simplifying. Example 1: Find out the value a in the equations 2a + 6 = 20. Solution: The given equation is 2a + 6 = 20. In this equation now subtract 6 on both sides then we will get it as 2a + 6 6 = 20 6 which is equal to 2a = 14 now divide the equation by 2 on both sides then we will get it as 2a / 2 = 14 / 2 which is equal to a = 7. The required value of a is 7. Now we can verify this by substituting a value in 2a + 6 = 20 which equal to 2 (7) + 6 = 20 that is 14 + 6 = 20. Example 2: Find out the value of the x in the equation x^2 + 16 = 25. Solution: The given equation is x^2 + 16 = 25 now on both the sides subtract 16 then we will get it as x^2 + 16 16 = 25 16 which is equal to x^2 = 9 now take square roots on both the sides then we will get it as x = square root (9) which is equal to +- 3.
